The End of a Decade

Elisa C.

Overall 2010 was an interesting year—from people showing their support for Coco and Betty White stealing everyone’s hearts to the BP oil spill and a more recent leak that set the world abuzz. But what about all that’s happened in the last decade?

Some say the decade ended last year (2000-2009 being ten years) but my kindergarten teacher didn’t teach me to count starting with zero, so in my mind the decade ends this year.MORE…

My Happy Holidays

Nate F.

When it comes to the holidays, everyone always talks about the music, the “cheer,” the family, the gifts, the food, etcetera, etcetera. For me, the holidays aren’t complete without the following three things:

  1. Snow
  2. Cold weather
  3. Fire

It’s a Small World After All (Thanks to Facebook)

Rebecca M.

Last week, I read a post on TechCrunch about how Paul Butler, an engineering intern at Facebook, created an awesome data visualization of about 10,000,000 pairs of Facebook friends around the world.MORE…

Rudolph (You Don’t Have to Put on the Red Light)

Pete C.

Every year when December rolls around, I dig out the music and movies that I traditionally associate with this time of year. The Chieftains’ “The Bells of Dublin” album has long been my family’s Christmas go-to album, and I know that “A Christmas Story” is going to appear on TV, which always makes me want to buy that lamp. But, as I get older (wow, I hate typing that) I’m starting to form some new favorites to go with the holidays. And, I just came across a brilliant mashup of “Roxanne” by The Police (1978) and one of the most classic of Christmas movies, the stop-motion animation “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (1964):MORE…

If Content is King, then Conversation is Queen

Amanda F.

(And let’s face it, we all know who really rules the kingdom).

Brands today are not only shaped by the products they offer and the communication they put out in the marketplace, but more importantly, what consumers have to say about the brand.

Likert or Not

Elisa C.

I should preface this blog post by admitting that I am fully aware that this post outs me as a complete nerd. Now that we’ve established my nerdiness, I’ll get on with the story.

Last week, I was fortunate to escape cold, wintry Boston for a relaxing girls’ getaway week on a tropical island with my mom and sister. Psyched to decompress and not think about reality for a week, I packed an arsenal of magazines and books to digest between mid-morning and mid-afternoon naps.MORE…

Your Social Network: The next place for you to avoid marketers (and how marketers can get ahead of the game)

Richard W.

When I came home from work the other day, I swung by my mailbox in hopes of finding something exciting. Instead, seven out of the nine items were junk (the other two, of course, sadly being bills). Okay, I won’t call it junk because I’m sure someone worked very hard building a beautiful direct mail piece for me to immediately discard in the trash, er, I mean recycling bin. Alright, next stop, Gmail. Surely a friend would want to catch up with me, maybe some information from one of my professors about next week’s class, or maybe just pictures of my parents’ puppy. Nope! Just deals, deals, deals. I didn’t open any of them because, quite frankly, I just tuned out.MORE…
