The term co-creation is so hot right now. I think it really caught on when Vitamin Water and Mountain Dew had their Facebook fans develop new flavors for the beverage behemoths. However, new product developers are tasked with more than coming up with new flavors, packaging and names for line extensions.MORE…

My friends and family tend to call me a “gear snob”… and I will openly admit that any day. I am very particular about my ski goggles, my sneakers, and my running leggings way more so than my every day wardrobe. I stick to the brands that I love (shout outs to Nike, Patagonia, and Asics) but there’s a new brand in the mix for me these days.

This week I was reminded of one of my favorite books as a kid… “Mistakes that worked.” Yes, I realize that this is a pretty dorky favorite book, but Harry Potter wasn’t out yet and it was a nice break from those entrepreneurial babysitters.

“Mistakes that worked” shared the stories of inventions that were for the most part accidental but turned out to be great successes. Examples featured in the book include:MORE…

At Communispace, it’s no secret that we think a lot about developing communities: how best to facilitate them, keep members engaged, and create a safe comfortable environment for members to share thoughts and feelings that they might not share elsewhere. It’s something we pride ourselves on and honestly, we’re really good at it.

It’s not meant to be a summary, rather three personal takeaways I thought I’d share to help continue the dialogue. I’m interested to hear your thoughts…

Years ago, I read about two attempts to explore the possibilities and limitations of human-computer interactions. Back in the ‘70s, somebody at MIT programmed a computer to behave like a psychoanalyst. After you logged in, this system (named Eliza) would calmly and quietly display some amber text on the screen, asking, “How are you feeling today?”

Perhaps mildly taken aback, but definitely intrigued, you’d type in an answer – oh, say, “Okay, I guess. A little hassled,” (because people were hassled back then, not stressed-out), “but okay.”MORE…
