There was an early sign I was meant to go into marketing: I was a kid and was so excited for the Super bowl ads. We’re not talking “yay,” excitement but all out “this is just as good as Christmas excitement.”

To prepare, my father, ever the analyst, created a spreadsheet in which he recorded each family member’s rating of each ad on a ten point scale.MORE…

This has been a peculiar winter in New England—on Saturday it was 59 degrees. Despite the unseasonably warm weather, all I wanted to do was stay close to home, make soup and look into what sort of marathon television opportunity Bravo had on offer. My own behavior in large part mirrors what Best Buy validated via an innovative research program in their Communispace community—seasonality in retail is largely about behavior and not about weather, location or calendar anchors. Customer behavior should then drive the retail calendar of marketing plans and offers.MORE…

Let me begin by saying that I love Christmas. I am not particularly religious but I am attracted as a lot of people are by the sense of occasion, its opt-in seasonal faith, its proud, shameless indulgence and the opportunity it gives to pause and take stock at the end of the year.MORE…

One of the best things about the American holiday of Thanksgiving (besides the plethora of food), is that it provides a great time for reflection. We are surrounded by the people that know us best and we have a little bit more time than usual to think about what we are grateful for. As I sat down for Thanksgiving dinner, I thought about the different personalities of the people in my family and what unique perspective and qualities they brought to the dinner table.MORE…

But did you know that last month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15) was Hispanic Heritage Month? If the answer is no, don’t worry – plenty of Hispanics didn’t know, either.MORE…

With Paris Fashion Week in full motion, it’s a timely opportunity to think about how brands are “setting the trend.” While some fashion brands are on the Communispace roster, our clients are always, metaphorically, putting their products and services on the runway. And we all know a consumer insights analyst or marketers Holy Grail is truly, "how do I get ahead of the curve in terms of trends?"MORE…

Earlier this week, I was one of 32 participants in the 5th Speed Networking Event at Communispace. The event took place in our Fenway-themed cafeteria, with two long rows of tables set up, with interns on one side and senior staff members on the other. The idea was to give us (the interns) an opportunity to talk one-on-one with those higher up in the company, and pick their brains for a few minutes each.MORE…

The 4th of July has to be the best holiday of the year. We have an entire 3-day weekend dedicated to spending time with family and friends, barbecuing, eating, drinking, warm weather and, of course, fireworks. It really has it all. Yup, Independence Day is most certainly my favorite holiday. (I’ll mark Thanksgiving as a close second, but that’s only because of football, and that’s iffy at best at this point.)MORE…

Some of you out there will probably recognize the title of this post from a quote by the Indianapolis Colts’ Coach, Jim Mora, back in 2001. (If you’re not familiar with it, check it out.) I should tell you, however, that in contrast to his request, this post will be doing the exact opposite; talking about the playoffs. (Just so we’re clear, when I say playoffs, I’m referring to the post-season/championship tournament for the national sports leagues.)MORE…
