Independence for the 4th

Nate F.

The 4th of July has to be the best holiday of the year. We have an entire 3-day weekend dedicated to spending time with family and friends, barbecuing, eating, drinking, warm weather and, of course, fireworks. It really has it all. Yup, Independence Day is most certainly my favorite holiday. (I’ll mark Thanksgiving as a close second, but that’s only because of football, and that’s iffy at best at this point.)MORE…

Playoffs? Don’t Talk About Playoffs.

Nate F.

Some of you out there will probably recognize the title of this post from a quote by the Indianapolis Colts’ Coach, Jim Mora, back in 2001. (If you’re not familiar with it, check it out.) I should tell you, however, that in contrast to his request, this post will be doing the exact opposite; talking about the playoffs. (Just so we’re clear, when I say playoffs, I’m referring to the post-season/championship tournament for the national sports leagues.)MORE…

Stories beyond the Royal Wedding

Elisa C.

I swore I wasn’t going to add to the hype. I made a rule for myself that I wouldn’t write about the royal wedding … but rules are made to be broken, right?

People are obsessed. Since the proposal announcement, the world’s been aflutter wondering what Kate Middleton’s dress will look like (it was a gorgeous Alexander McQueen by the way), who will be on the invite list or where the couple will go for the honeymoon. Even T-Mobile developed an ad speculating the entrance of the wedding party.MORE…

Takeaways from the 4A’s

Bill A.

The following are some thoughts I jotted down coming out of three days spent at the American Association of Advertising Agencies conference in Austin, Texas. It’s not meant to be a summary, rather three personal takeaways I thought I’d share to help continue the dialogue. I’m interested to hear your thoughts…

Is The iPad 2 Really a “Post-PC Device”?

Richard W.

At a recent Apple press conference, Steve Jobs referred to the iPad as a “Post-PC Device” and after the introduction to the iPad2 this past Wednesday, something about this just isn’t sitting well with me. In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll just put it out there that I’m one of those geeks you see lining up for new Apple products, and the iPad 2 probably won’t be an exception.MORE…

Shed a Little Light: Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.

Nora T.

In the words of James Taylor, “let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King.” Growing up I would listen to his song “Shed a Little Light” on this day every year. (I even brought in my dad’s cassette tape to play the song for show-and-tell in my Kindergarten class. Yup, I was that cool.) As a child I was struck by the lyrics, even if I didn’t grasp the full meaning at the time. To me, Martin Luther King Day represented a time for coming together to recognize and embrace the differences between us.MORE…

My Happy Holidays

Nate F.

When it comes to the holidays, everyone always talks about the music, the “cheer,” the family, the gifts, the food, etcetera, etcetera. For me, the holidays aren’t complete without the following three things:

  1. Snow
  2. Cold weather
  3. Fire

That Special Time of the Year

Nate F.

Ah, yes, the holidays are upon us. And that can only mean one thing: it’s time for office holiday parties!

Are you excited? I sure am. What’s not to love about free food, free drinks, good cheer and spending time with colleagues? Of course, there’s always some drama. You know – that incident (or person) that everyone is talking about the next day at the office. Well, I decided I want play it safe this year, so I consulted the best the Internet has to offer on proper etiquette for office holiday parties.MORE…
